(Bookish) Chats with Lily // Twitter, My First Physical Review Copy & TATBILB

Happy Saturday, guys! 🌷

Today, I’m here with a slightly different kind of post than you are used to seeing on my blog.

I’m a very … private person, and I’ve mostly been talking about books here so far (which is a given, since this is primarily a book blog, where I share my love of books with you), but since university started this week for me—I already talked about it a little bit in my August wrap-up—and as I’m going to be focusing a lot more on other things in my life—which doesn’t solely revolve around books even if it may seem that way sometimes—so is my blog.

I’m still going to mostly scream about books, though, don’t worry!
Not only here on my blog, but also … on Twitter?? Because

I finally joined Twitter (@sprnklsofdreams)!! Let’s be friends!! 💗

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that this blog post is going to be about me, sharing more about my life outside of books with you all. And if you enjoy these kinds of posts (which I hope you do!!), I’d love to write more “bookish chats with Lily” posts in the future. ☺️

86-2Books & Blogging // Sprinkles of Dreams

I’ve finally had the time to work a bit more on my blog, and you can now find my rating system here! A lot of you have been wondering why I give books such low ratings, and I know that three star ratings have been confusing to you as well, and have come across as “negative” in the past, which isn’t the case at all! 🙂

I also received my first ever physical review copy of a book, and I am so incredibly thankful, because a) I’m an international blogger (which, I think, really says it all), but moreover, I b) have only been blogging for about four months, and didn’t expect it at all?? I hardly ever buy books, because I’ve been saving, and now spend, most of my money on everything related to uni, so it really means A LOT to me. :’)

Oh, and to update you on how I’m faring in regards to the O.W.L.s read-a-thon I joined this month—I’ve finished seven books so far, plus one non-O.W.L.s-related one that I’ve been screaming about for a year now, Sadie (❤️).

86-2London // Sprinkles of Dreams

Many of you wanted to know a bit more about my London trip last month, so here are a few pictures!

98

London // Sprinkles of Dreams  London Eye // Sprinkles of Dreams

I had a really nice time there, even though the sun and the heat were unrelenting, and sometimes quite exhausting traveling companions. I really enjoyed just strolling through the streets, and feeling like a local there—though I visited sights too, of course, like the London Eye, which is really pretty!

98

The Harry Potter Shop at Platform 9 3/4 // Sprinkles of Dreams  London Chinatown // Sprinkles of Dreams

One of my absolute highlights of the trip was the visit I paid to Chinatown; it was such a nostalgic experience for me to walk through the streets, drinking bubble tea from Coco (the Taiwanese bubble tea shop I used to go to all the time when I was in Taiwan), and eating at restaurants with actual traditional Asian dishes.

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that I visited Waterstones and commemorated my London trip by taking book home with me—which I now realize, putting it like this, sounds like I just took it, but no, I actually bought it!—as is my tradition when travelling; you can see a picture I took of it here!

86-2moviesandtvshows

I stayed up very late to watch To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and it warmed my heart, and actually made me tear up multiple times. It was so, so wonderful to see an Asian girl in a movie, and moreover, as the protagonist—not a sidekick, or a stereotype designed to provide comedic relief, but the actual main character whom the story revolves around.

Lara-Jean dreamy GIF // Sprinkles of Dreams

I can’t put into words exactly how much it means to me, but I’m sure all my Asian friends here will understand, and relate. I’m so incredibly happy for all the teenage girls all over the world who are able to see themselves represented in this way, and to have the experience I never had as a teen. :”)

(I still haven’t watched Crazy Rich Asians, but I’m planning on doing so very soon!)

I’ve rambled on for long enough in this post already, but I there’s one thing I absolutely have to mention, before wrapping up this post … Brooklyn Nine-Nine received an additional order of five episodes for its next season!! AHHH.

[picture me flailing in excitement here]

blue-watercolor-wash-texture-5letschat!-2How has your September been so far?
Have you watched To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and did you like it?
Do you enjoy these kinds of rambly blog posts?

(How long will it take for me to know what I’m doing on Twitter?)

  1. Love these type of posts. I like getting to know bloggers more than just the book content! I added you on twitter! YES for Nine-Nine getting 5 more episodes!! I made my husband watch TATBILB this morning. He liked it too! 🙂 Definitely watch Crazy Rich Asians soon! It’s so good!!

    1. Thank you so much, Leslie! 💗

I so, so excited that B99 is getting the appreciation from the network that it deserves, and ahh I hope they end up granting the actors their wish of filming a #MeToo episode.

You’re a gem for making him watch it, and lucky (for him 😛) that he liked it! I can’t wait to see CRA!! I hope there will be more movies, since it’s based on a book that’s also part of a series …?

      1. Ohh, a #MeToo episode would be great!!

Hah, yeah! We had watched the Sierra is a loser one, and it was pretty bad. I had to show him a good movie! Yes, I’m really hoping that they do the two other books!! I still need to read book 3!

        Liked by 2 people

          1. Yeah, I’m not sure if it’s from a book? I couldn’t find one but all I found was that it was a modern re-make. It was not good!

Not a failure! There’s just wayy too many good books to read and not enough time! 🙂

  2. So happy you enjoyed London, speaking from someone who lives there. Chinatown is always a good shout and bubbletea is my go-to. I’m yet to read/watch TATBILB but it’s on my TBR, and I completely agree about how it’s great there’s a female protagonist, as a half-Chinese girl myself.

    1. Thank you, Debbie! 😊 It’s really such a beautiful city, I would definitely love to visit it again! And bubble tea is the best!! Do you have a favorite place you go to, or a favorite flavor?

I read the books a really long time ago, but I enjoyed them – most of my friends have said that the movie is much better, though. I’d love to hear what you think, if you get around to them! 💕

Thanks so much for your lovely comment, and it’s so nice to meet a fellow Asian! ☺️🌻

      1. Not that you’re ever likely to go there but I go to a bubble tea place on a smaller street in Chinatown, it’s called Cuppacha. It’s a fairly small chain (to my knowledge) but they do loyalty cards and they’re around £1 cheaper than Chatime, which is probably one of the bigger chains in London.

For flavour my go to is a red bean matcha milk tea, it’s the green one that looks questionable but it’s really good. My dad/brother tend to go for a lemon green tea which I think is a good shout as well, and of course, mango popping juice pearls always make bubble tea better. I’ve recently tried taro milk tea with normal tapioca pearls and I’m liking that one too, despite it being creamier/sweeter than I’m used too.

Anyway, that was a bit of a rant about bubble tea. What’s your favourite flavour?

        Liked by 1 person

        1. I’ll definitely note that place for the next time I hopefully get to visit London! 🙂

Oh, I love everything matcha and red bean (it reminds of the shaved ice dessert!!), but I usually either go for the classic milk tea with the tapioca pearls, or Taro (I love mochis in the Taro flavor as well!).

I could honestly ramble on about everything that’s food-related forever. 💓💓

          Liked by 1 person

          1. I totally agree!
I’ve actually never tried the shaved ice dessert before, what’s it like? I do love a good bubble waffle before, because my Uncle has a machine and I had them when I went to Hong Kong, but I’ve never been able to pay the extortionate prices for them here in England.

  3. Welcome to Twitter, love! ❤ And it's so exciting that you received a physical copy of a book! I still haven't worked up the nerve to request a physical ARC yet! Hahaha. I really enjoyed the To All the Boys I've Loved Before movie too. I need to read the books some day! 🙂

    1. Thank you so, so much, Kelly! 💗

Same, I relate!! I was very lucky to be the one who was approached. Oh, I’m so happy you enjoyed To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – how cute are the actors in real life?? – and I hope you like the books too, when you get to them. 🙂

Thanks so much for your sweet comment! ❤

  4. I love this post and the idea of it being more personal! Most of us in London were sick of the heat we got this year too, it was far too much for us considering we’re used to about 18C being our hot summer weather 😂
Congrats on your first physical review copy! An author sent me my first one a couple days ago too and I’m so happy! I think I’ve watched tatbilb about 16739382 times now and I’m still not sick of it, it just makes me so happy for some reason, and I’m seeing crazy rich asians the seconds it’s released in the uk because I am Asian and I would love to be crazy rich (also mateo from superstore is in it so I’m sold) woah I ramble a lot (sorry) amazing post lovely ❤️❤️

Ahhh that’s amazing, congratulations!! Which book did you receive? 💓

No, don’t apologize!! I’m super excited to find fellow Asians whom I can ramble on about seeing ourselves represented with, and honestly, #goals for having watched and re-watched TATBILB so many times!! I’m hoping to see Crazy Rich Asians this weekend – I love the singer who is in the movie, and I really like Harry Shum + now I have to check out that Mateo guy, ahah. 😏 What is the release for CRA in the UK? I hope you can see it soon as well! ❤

      1. It’s a book called New Wave, from what I know it’s a dystopian book about a girl caught commenting a crime
Honestly tatbilb is becoming a huuuge issue for me because I need to do things other than watch it but I can’t…
the release is on Friday this week and I’m so excited to see it because I’ve heard amazing things about it! Hope you enjoy xx

Ahh, your pictures of London look amazing! It just seems like such a great place, hopefully I’ll be able to visit someday. TATBILB was such a great movie! I thought it was incredibly well done and it really captured the essence of the book.

    1. THANK YOU SO MUCH, OLIVIA! 10/10 would write more of these just for you. 💗

It’s truly beautiful, and I hope you can go there someday soon! It’s definitely a city I’d re-visit, if possible.

I’m so happy you enjoyed TATBILB. 💞 I don’t remember the books too well anymore, because I read them years ago, but I’m glad to hear that! Almost everyone says the movie is better, though, and I shouldn’t re-read them, haha.

I’ve been thinking about writing a post about it, because I’ve been getting this question a lot, but I still feel very much like a newbie blogger? If you’re interested in one, though, I’d definitely put it on my schedule! 🙂

I would love to read a post about it from you!! That’s okay, I’d actually rather hear it from someone who DOESN’T have years of experience under their belt (since it’s fresh in your mind!) but that’s okay if you don’t want to do it!!😊

  8. Oh I absolutely loved this post, Lily! I’d love to read more bookish chats from you in the future, hehe. 😊💞 I love your pictures from London!! (Especially the last one – all those pride flags 😍)

I watched both TATBILB and Crazy Rich Asians in August, and I really enjoyed both movies! It makes my heart really happy to see Asian representation too. (Especially in Crazy Rich Asians – seeing parts of my own Chinese culture in a movie in theaters made my day.) ❤️ I hope you enjoy Crazy Rich Asians whenever you get to watch it!

And omg, YES!! I’m SO happy that season 6 of B99 received an order of five more episodes!! I honestly owe NBC my whole life at this point.

Yes, this exactly!! I can’t wait to see it, hopefully this weekend. Thank you so much!

I was hyperventilating for a sec, it makes me so, so happy that it’s being recognized for its brilliance. And NBC deserves the whole entire world from where I stand, at this point. 🙃💙💙

  9. I could totally relate! I’m an intl book blogger and I just received my first physical review copy last August. It means a lot to me since I rarely spend money on books because well, school stuff.

I am also trying out on writing different posts on my blog so, aaaaa. And watched TATBILB. It was my fave contemporary romance read and I loveeee Lana and Noah. Though I wish the movie was a little longer since it kinda felt like everything was squished in 90 minutes. Still loved the movie though!

PS. Followed you on twitter! 💕

It’s always so nerve-racking, but I’m glad I did! YES they are so precious snfhsjfnhd all their social media interactions make my heart warm, and their interviews are the Cutest. I found the movie so short as well! I really hope we’ll get sequels. 💫

Ohh what’s your Twitter handle, so I can follow you back? ☺️💗

  11. Congratulations on your physical ARC! Kaleena started a program called #FlappingPagesARCs (Twitter) that connects book bloggers across the globe and is designed to support international bloggers, that don’t get as many opportunities to review certain books as bloggers in the US, UK sometimes have. I’m spreading a word as I love her idea of spreading book love across the globe. 💕

I loved TATBILB! I am reading the books now as well. The actors were so cute and I will be rewatching this movie for sure. 😍

    1. Thanks, Vera! It’s not an ARC, but I’m still so thankful and appreciative of the opportunity. ☺️

I already signed up for the newsletter, but thank you so much for letting me know! It’s such a wonderful program, and I can’t wait to see more people taking part in it.

Ohh do you like the books or the movie more (so far)? & yess, they’re so precious and adorable, and their interviews make me swoon. 💘

      1. I’m so glad you are a part of it. I read 99% digital but will keep this program in mind as I want to donate books to it / help out. 😍

I adored the movie but am now enjoying the book maybe even a little bit more. I still haven’t finished it but can’t wait to read the sequels already. I’m officially addicted.. 😂😂😂💕

I'm probably the only person in the blogverse who still hasn't watched either To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before OR Love, Simon, but I WILL get to them before the end of the year! I need some wholesome, *diverse* teenage romcoms in my life. 😊

  14. This was an amazing post Lily! I’d love to read more about you too:) My September has been going great so far, and I’ll write about my September towards the end of the month as a wrap up post:)
I did watch To all the boys I loved before- and loved the movie. I’m quite old for YA movies and books, but I still like to watch and read them..so hehe. Also, I’m an Asian too, from India , living and working currently in UK, so I could relate to your feelings of eating at a traditional place in London or even watching a movie where the Asian (or in my case Indian) doesn’t just play a geeky sidekick..lol

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks so much, Prachi! 😊

I’m super happy to hear that September’s been treating you well, and ahh you loved TATBILB! Yes!!

Ohh wow, what do you do (if that’s not too personal – if it is, please feel free to ignore me, no pressure!!)? I hope you manage to find good places to eat traditional Indian food near where you live! ❤

      1. Oh I don’t mind at all! I work in IT as a designer- yeah quite cliched lol! I don’t code though, more of an analyst😊 the Indian restaurants nearby are really lame though, my husband cooks better food than any of the restaurants here, sigh. So I just indulge in my Indian food craving when I go to India to visit the families😊

Ohhh please tell me all your secrets to beseeching, because I’m too much of a shy little bean to reach out to anyone & am super lucky to have been approached by the author. 🙈
